Tips for Those Interested in Fashion Design Careers

If you want to work as a fashion designer, then you've chosen an exciting career. fashion designers get to share their vision with the world, and their works become an intimate part of people's daily lives. What could be more intimate than the clothes we wear on our bodies, after all? Your creations could become part of people's weddings, proms and trips to the beach. Maybe a pair of jeans you design will be responsible for a woman first attracting the attention of the man she'll eventually marry.

But before you can become a fashion designer, there are a few important things you should know. The first is that in order to become a fashion designer, the study of fashion has to become a serious part of your life. You should be studying it all the time. Read books on fashion; follow the latest fashion news online. Also, go to as many fashion shows as you can. And when you go to a fashion show, don't just attend as a passive observer; walk around, introduce yourself to as many people as possible, explain that your aspiration is to become a fashion designer. If you're bold, you might even ask if you can go backstage and talk to some of the designers and models. And if you're really bold, you might even wear some clothes that you've designed and tell everyone that you made your own clothes.

To become a fashion designer, you need to live and breathe fashion. When you go to the mall, study the clothes that department stores put on display. When you're at the park, sit on a bench and observe the clothes passers-by are wearing. You also need to set aside a substantial amount of time each day to practice designing. Draw all the ideas you have, no matter how wild they might seem. Refine your pencil line and your color sense. You should also practice sewing. You won't get very far in the fashion world if you aren't an expert sewer. Try making your own patterns to sew with, too; this is an important step in improving your overall technique.

You'll want to take art courses in high school, and apply to a college fashion design program. You can become a fashion designer with an associate's degree, but a bachelor's degree will give you a leg-up on the competition.

You must begin compiling a portfolio as early as you can. A portfolio is an organized collection of the illustrations and photos that best represent your work. A good portfolio will get you jobs, so make sure you put plenty of time and effort into it over the years.

Another tip is to see if you can get local stores to sell some of the clothes you design. This can be hard, but if you know someone who owns a clothing shop this person might be willing to do you a favor.

New York Fashion Week Moves Uptown

The highlight of the style conscious calendar is fast approaching, as Fashion Week is about to hit New York City. For the first time since 1993, this fashion spectacle will be taking place in a brand new venue.

On September the 9th, the Lincoln Center, located on the upper west side, will be opening its doors to the most stylish and influential audience in the fashion industry. With the reputation of being home to the City's most affluent, cultural and artistic inhabitants, the upper west side will be the ideal location for New York's most prestigious fashion event.

new york fashion Week had been showing at Bryant Park for the last 17 years and many designers had subsequently settled into offices and showrooms close-by, therefore unsurprisingly there was outrage amongst the designers who felt put out at the prospect of having to ferry their collection further uptown. Although the tents have become an iconic symbol of the famous event, the new venue is set to mark the dawn of a new era.

The new and bigger location will enable the event to welcome additional fresh talent to the shows, as well as allowing for better use of technology. For example, guests will now have the ability to check themselves in to the fashion shows by using bar code scanners and kiosks. This welcome improvement will lend a hand to the organisers of the event, helping it run as smoothly and as efficiently as possible.

Visitors will be flocking to the City to soak up the atmosphere, which will naturally boost the already thriving economy. The fashion and lifestyle blog, Stylelist, estimated that around $56million is spent on hotels in New York alone by visitors coming to see the spring and fall shows.

If you are looking for hip hotels in new york or luxurious design hotels close to the Lincoln Centre such as the Hudson, the Mandarin Oriental and the Empire Hotel, then spend some time on hotel comparison website, gekko.com, to grab the best deal available.

Scarves in London Fashion Week

scarves

Whilst most people are just thinking about taking their woolies off as they step in to spring, london fashion week is already looking to Autumn/winter. This famous London fashion event took place in February this year and provides us with an insight as to what will be in our high street stores toward the end of the year. With designers like House of Holland and vivienne westwood making an appearance we can take a sneaky peak to know what is for keeps in our wardrobe this year.

Time and time again on the catwalk we are seeing tailored and feminine fashion. Not quite the shoulder pads of the 80'that have been popular recently but smart tailoring is definitely here in a big way. Whether it is a small jacket with tailored trousers or a tailored shift dress that accentuates the waist the look is smart and refined. If you have a button shirt for instance take it all the way up to the top button to really get the look.

If you want to add a little bit of colour to the smart tailored look you can simply add a little scarf tied around the neck. This was seen many times on the catwalk with designers such as vivienne westwood. Choose a simple well fitted dress that comes to the knee and team it with a brightly colored square scarf that is folded in half and tied round the neck. This look is so elegant and is best worn to an elegant restaurant or out for lunch with the girls.

Tween, an up and coming fashion name from Istanbul also demonstrated the elegance of the woolen scarf when used by men, and for this winter when teamed with a well fitted coat the scarf for men can look sophisticated and sexy. The look he is to use darker muted colours and wrap the scarf many times round the neck, so you just get a collar effect without the ends hanging down. This can either be worn alone or teamed with a matching woolen hat.

The scarf is one fashion accessory that is never left out on the catwalk. london fashion week has demonstrated that this versatile accessory is not only up to the minute but adds glamour to any wardrobe. You can give your outfit a completely different look with the use of a neck scarf. Try experimenting with different colours and patterns to jazz up the tailored look this autumn.

Plus Size Australian Models Once Again Walk at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week

plus size clothing australia

melbourne fashion week is a celebration of style and fashion from all over Australia. Twice a year designers, buyers, media and models gather in Melbourne, Australia. Most recently the spring show was held and included plus size Australian models on the City Square runway in the TS14+ show. Melanie Shwarz, TS14+ marketing manager, said the inclusion of models over size 12 was amazing. The plus size Australian plus size Australian models wore bright colors mixed with basic blacks and whites. Ms. Shwarz says the line takes trendy clothes and adapts them to the plus size figure.

The inclusion of plus size models in the show is nothing new, in 2009 City Chic was the first line of clothing to have their own runway show at Melbourne. Critics have brought up the point that they feel the inclusion of plus size Australian models will have the effect of making the population more obese. This is countered with the opinion that if this was the case, everyone would be stick thin from all of the waifs normally seen on runways. Attitudes like the former are just one of the hurdles plus size models must navigate.

Many designers can't wrap their minds around the fact that 16 percent of the Australian women wear a size 16 or above. Another example is Myer's Big is Beautiful show. This show was held to introduce Myer's new plus size department and was praised as a hit. But as usual, when plus size Australian models are involved there are criticisms about their weight. The object was to show healthy looking models, but some pointed out that some of the models looked overweight. Imagine that, an overweight model in a plus size show. It would seem there is a double standard even in plus size modeling. You can be big, but not too big. The sad thing is, too big is considered over size 18.

Even with the detractors from events like the melbourne fashion week and other major fashion events, the plus size australian fashion industry has made major headway in recent years. Two major modeling agencies, BMG and Bella are based in Australia. They have under contract some of the most beautiful women in the world, and their models have appeared in shows all over the world and many major international publications. These include Vogue Italia, French Elle, French Vogue and Cosmopolitan Australia. Robyn Lawley is one of the most popular plus size Australia n models today and she has become an advocate for the plus size lifestyle. Kudos to TS+14 for including plus size models, and hats off to the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week; let's hope more major shows include plus size models in major runway shows.

London Fashion Week Report - Top 5 Collections for Autumn Winter 2011-2012

fashion trends

Burberry Prorsum

It was the show that got everyone talking, Burberry Prorsum. Christopher Bailey took Burberry Prorsum in a new direction with new shapes, colours and looks that he has not created for a while. The collection was very clear and working well together with yet another new direction for the trench coat. The catwalk was held in a tent by Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens with a captivating soundtrack including Adele 'Someone Like You'. Colours at Burberry Prorsum included orange, teal, red and olive. Details included chunky fastenings and tall collars on trench coats. A black and white look made an appearance which complimented the previous bright colours and meant commercially there was something for everyone. Models wore black platform high heel leather shoes with a continued influence of Spring Summer 2011 trend of wedges. The finale of Burberry Prorsum was spectacular with fake snow raining down on the catwalk. Models walked the finale in transparent macs - these are what are on everybody's wishlist for Autumn Winter 2011-2012!

christopher kane

christopher kane's Autumn Winter 2011 2012 collection showcased at london fashion week was inspired by school nostalgia from pencil cases to lollipops. The collection is to be known at the 'liquid collection' which is about wearable and sophisticated clothes. The first looks included greens, browns and turquoise with pencil skirts and cardigans and the inclusive of crochet pieces. The liquid influence appeared in the form of pockets and parts of collars made from strips of plastic and waistbands emphasized with wave shaped strips of plastic. Accessories included plastic clutch bags matching the fluid plastic effects. The final looks were more transparent and delicate with softer tones being used.

Holly Fulton

Displaying the best of new British fashion talent at london fashion week was Holly Fulton winner of NEWGEN sponsorship. Holly Fulton quickly became a trending topic on Twitter with people complimenting her first yellow and black tweed look, art deco inspired dresses and her signature geometric prints. Models did struggle to walk in their uber high heels with one model having to take hers off during the catwalk. The use of chunky accessories and jewellery with studded detailing was gorgeous. Holly Fulton prints included baroque swirls, art deco cityscapes on silk trousers and maxi dresses. Trousers and a maxi dress featuring a repeat 'lip print' pattern got fashion followers talking. However Holly Fulton's simple black velvet dress was just as captivating. With Samantha Cameron in the front row, Holly Fulton's Autumn Winter 2011 2012 catwalk got everyone's seal of approval.

House Of Holland

With everyone remembering last season's pompom earrings we couldn't wait to see what Henry Holland had created this Autumn Winter 2011 2012 season. House Of Holland is always loud and statement making yet it always has a sexy twist and somehow Holland has done it again with Granny Chic! The pompom earrings were replaced with big pearl hoops by Katie Hillier. Holland stated "Our girl is too young to wear a pearl necklace so we beaded them on to her dress and made it sexy". To add to the pearls were tweeds and bingo ball prints! Every item had Holland's signature style and humour. Bold, block colours were styled together including fuscia pink mid length skirt with box pleats (a glimpse of a silk slip underneath), orange blazer and purple shirt. Like christopher kane, Henry Holland also included crochet pieces into his Autumn Winter 2011 2012 collection but in a different way. Holland styled crochet cami tops with printed crochet tights. Holland continued the socks and shoes trend with high heel court shoes and stripy ankle socks.

Matthew Williamson

The london fashion week Autumn Winter 2011 2012 collection by Matthew Williamson was inspired by Francisco Infante-Arana who is a premier Russian avant-garde artist. Francisco combines innovative creations and photographs them in natural landscapes. Williamson commented "I've tried to take the quite nomadic DNA of our brand and combine it with a technical aspect, really fusing the two extremes." Williamson chose Philips de Pury building to enable viewers to see the detail that went into all the pieces - Battersea Power Station was last year's venue choice. Beads and sequins were intricately layered onto one another. The colours within the catwalk show were stunning with pinks, greys and nudes being used. Chunky knit socks were styled with heavy duty wooden wedges. Leather skirts and jackets with padded textures added a feminine attitude to the styling. The slouchy silk trousers are a favorite of ours. The combination of textures including sheer shirts, silk trousers and leather jackets added a feminine touch to soft tailored looks.

Declarative Programming - Strategies for Solving Software Problems

Many software and hardware producers take pride in the exponential pace of technology change, but for users and consumers of their products and services the rapid technological obsolescence often means increased costs, frustrations, and unfulfilled promises. Corporate America expects to make capital investments in goods and facilities that should last five, ten, even twenty years, but only an eighteen-month lifetime for computer software and hardware investment is not uncommon. Lowering the costs to develop new software solutions or extending the lifetime of software applications are two complementary approaches to addressing technological change. These goals can often be met by taking a declarative strategy when designing software systems independent of the programming methodology employed. Issues with Imperative Programming Most programming projects today use the imperative style of programming. Developers write sequences of operations in a language, such as C++, Java, Visual Basic, etc., that implement an algorithm, or recipe, for performing tasks. The algorithm for the task mixes logical, or relational, statements about the task to be solved and control statements about how to calculate the solution. The logical statements describe 'what-to' calculate while the control statements describe 'how-to' calculate. Debugging the algorithm consists of verifying the accuracy of the logical statements and fixing the control statements, if necessary. There are many problems with the imperative approach. The sequence of operations critically determines the correctness of the algorithm. Unexpected execution sequences through an algorithm caused by user input actions or real-time events in a multitasking environment may result in subtle or catastrophic algorithm failure. Writing the control logic is the programmer's responsibility and, therefore, subject to implementation errors. Understanding a program's algorithm is often difficult for other developers without extensive metadata, or comments, on the code and empirical tracing of the program's execution with sample data. Verifying program correctness consumes a significant portion of the development effort, but also usually fails to discover a significant number of defects. To address the problems associated with imperative programming, the computer industry has developed and advocated many approaches. Structured programming and campaigns against 'go-to' statements address some of the problems discovered with ad hoc control structures and statements. Modularization initiatives stress decomposition techniques on the premise that humans can better comprehend, reason about, and maintain smaller pieces of code. Object-oriented programming advocates program constructions using reusable components, libraries, and frameworks. The pattern programming school stresses analogies to other fields, such as architecture, by constructing programs using well-designed and crafted solutions, or patterns, that recur in many programming contexts. What is Declarative Programming? Declarative programming separates the logic, or what, of an algorithm from the control, or how, of an algorithm. The programmer still specifies the logic or equations specifying the problem's relations, but the programming system is responsible for control, or how the logic is evaluated. The most familiar examples are spreadsheets and query languages for relational databases. The user, or programmer, specifies a mathematical relation as a query, say in SQL, for what to retrieve, while the database engine determines how to execute the query against the database. There are many advantages to declarative programming over the imperative style. In declarative languages, programmers do not specify sequences of operations, but only definitions or equations specifying relations. Unlike imperative programming, the logic relations in declarative programming are execution order independent, free of side effects of evaluation, and semantically clear to visual inspection. The declarative family of programming languages has a long history in the academic computer science community and specialized areas of commercial application, such as compiler construction, expert systems, and databases. Declarative languages have two main family trees. The logic declarative languages, such as Prolog, are based on first-order predicate calculus, which generalizes the notions of Aristotelian true or false values to statements, or predicates, involving relations among any entities. The other family branch consists of functional declarative languages, such as Miranda, Haskell, and SML. The functional declarative languages are based on the l-calculus developed by the mathematician, Alonzo Church in the 1930's. l-calculus formalizes the notions of recursive application of pure functions to computable problems. Although not widely known as such, the latest programming fashion, XSLT, an extensible stylesheet language for transforming XML, is also a functional declarative language. Despite the theoretical advantages of declarative programming languages, they do not have widespread use in commercial programming practice despite an attempt in the 1980's by Borland to mass-market a PC version of Prolog along with the highly popular Turbo Pascal. There are many factors contributing to the infrequent use of declarative languages. A large contributor is the paucity of collegiate training in declarative languages, but awkward syntaxes of some languages, inefficient compilers and run-times, and restricted domains of applicability of generalized 'how-to' mechanisms are all contributors. Using Declarative Strategies in Commercial Software While declarative programming languages have not received wide-spread commercial usage, the strategy of separating logic, or what, from control, or how, in an algorithm is a powerful, generalized technique for increasing ease of use and extending the longevity of software. Declarative techniques are particularly powerful in user interfaces and application programming interfaces (APIs) that have a rich, complex set of inputs over a relatively small field of execution behaviors. Two examples of commercial software that illustrate the applicability of declarative techniques are DriverLINX and ExceLINX in the fields of data acquisition and test instrument control. Using Declarations for Data Acquisition DriverLINX is an API for controlling data-acquisition hardware used to measure and generate analog and digital signals interfaced to all types of external transducers. Data-acquisition applications include laboratory research, medical instrumentation, and industrial process control. Traditionally, APIs for data-acquisition devices modeled the characteristics of the hardware design and had a large number of functions of one or more parameters to setup the hardware and control data flow through the system. The ordering of sequences of operations was often critical to correctly programming and controlling the hardware. Upgrading to new data-acquisition hardware was often costly as hardware-necessitated changes in the order of operation sequences to program the hardware required costly software changes. To surmount these problems, DriverLINX takes an abstract and declarative approach to data-acquisition programming. Instead of modeling specific board designs, DriverLINX abstracts the functional subsystems of data-acquisition hardware into generalized attributes and capabilities. Programs request the measurement task they want to perform by parameterizing a 'service request' declaration. The DriverLINX runtime determines how to satisfy the service request using the available hardware and returns the measurements as a packetized stream to the program. The data-acquisition programmer is relieved of any responsibility for data-acquisition algorithm control. Besides relieving the programmer of control responsibility, the DriverLINX abstract, declarative approach gives the program syntactic and semantic interchangeability when migrating to equivalent hardware products. The abstract, declarative approach also helps isolate the software vendor from early technological obsolescence of change in the computer industry by focusing on the immutable logic of data-acquisition relations while the control mechanisms vary with software developments. DriverLINX has been a viable approach to data-acquisition programming for more than 12 years despite the market evolution from 16-bit Windows to .NET today. Using Declarations for Test Instruments Test instruments, such as digital voltmeters and electrometers, have evolved from simple devices with a front panel knob and display screen to sophisticated measurement processors performing dozens of measurement and control functions. Like data-acquisition devices, typically developers send a carefully ordered sequence of commands to an instrument to setup the measurement and then send additional command sequences to control the data flow of measurements from the instrument. The aforementioned problems for developers using imperative approaches to instrument control significantly limit ease of use and prohibit quick instrumentation solutions to short-term measurement needs. ExceLINX is an add-in to Microsoft Excel that allows rapid specification of instrument test setups by using worksheet forms. Users specify, or declare, the channels, configurations, sampling rates, triggering, and data locations for the measurements they wish to perform by filling out an Excel worksheet. When the user selects the 'start' button on the toolbar, ExceLINX translates the specification into the correct command sequence for the target instrument, initiates the measurement, and flows the data back to the requested worksheet. Users can setup and collect measurements by themselves in minutes using logic specifications compared to days or weeks using programmer's time for imperative specifications. Internally, ExceLINX also uses a declarative approach to handling the complex problem of field validation for the worksheet forms. Instruments have hundreds of parameters with complex overlaps among parameters. To validate whether the instrument supports the parameter set the user selected, ExceLINX maintains a dependency tree of allowed, disallowed, and unused parameters for every input cell on the worksheet. Each node in the tree also maintains logical relations among the selected set of parameters that ExceLINX evaluates at runtime to cross validate user input selections. Each supported instrument model has different parameter semantics, but ExceLINX can easily handle this complexity by switching model trees because the model-specific logic in the validation tree is separate from the shared control implementation in the ExceLINX code. Declarative programming strategies that separate logic from control in algorithms are powerful techniques that can be used with today's popular imperative languages. These techniques can make software more interchangeable, maintainable, usable, and endurable Copyright Roy E. Furman, M.D., Ph.D 2005

Celine Autumn Winter 2011 2012

Phoebe Philo's collection for Celine incorporated minimalism, craft, sportswear and inspirations from automotive interiors with streamline cuts. The overal simplicity of this collection caught our eye. Trousers played an important roll in this Autumn Winter collection which was refreshing. Two toned troousers were a favourite which used both tweed and leather fabrics. Celine Autumn Winter 2011 2012 collection could show the return of the polo neck. The chevron stripe jumper gave a true statement to what the collection was about, laidback sophistication. The use of panels within the construction of pieces complimented the block colour trends that came from london fashion week this season. Panelling in shirts to the panelled cream leather dress showed this collection complimented the figure.

Facts:

  • Colours: Olive, brown, cream and pink
  • Must have items: Slim fitted trousers and panelled dress
  • Footwear: Pointed loafers and low ankle boots

jean paul gaultier Autumn Winter 2011 2012

jean paul gaultier Autumn Winter 2011 2012 collection was all about making a statement. Not necessarily of outlandish fashion but more of a statement of society. jean paul gaultier collection at paris fashion week included a witty take on age, jean paul gaultier stated, "how to look young - without Botox". Models were styled with grey wigs that had been backcombed and given exaggerated French pleat styles. Before his show in Paris on Saturday jean paul gaultier evaluated his collection, "no corsets, no flesh! It's quite ladylike. I can't believe it". Here at Kindred Sole we love the grown up elegance of jean paul gaultier's collection but love even more how a theatrical style was involved including models stripping off layers of clothing, leaving a pile at the end of the runway. The collection embraced Parisian chic with the use of prints, trouser suits and belted trench coats. The tailoring at jean paul gaultier was so chic and with pieces including pussy cat bow blouses and tweed skirts and jackets, the collection was wearable.

Facts:

  • Colours: Camel, brown, black and cream
  • Must have items: Belted trench coat and trouser suit
  • Footwear: Smart black and brown high heel shoes

Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Autumn Winter 2011 2012

Vivienne Westwood is a name synonymous with fashion. Her shows are guaranteed to get people talking as a statement is always at the heart of the collection. Vivienne Westwood Gold Label collection at paris fashion week encapsulated a 'Woman as Warrior' theme. "I can't keep banging on about climate change, so I decided to express my thoughts about the planet through strong women, and the fact women are the guardians of culture," said Dame Vivienne Westwood after her show. Her inspirations from around the world were captivating. Prints and patterns created the fabulous looks of the show including batik prints, country florals, pinstripes and British plaids. The statement making geometric prints balanced with Victorian blouses with puff sleeves meant a balance between warrior and femininity. The tousled hair styled with face paint complimented the collection.

Facts:

  • Colours: Burgundy, Moss green, Red and grey
  • Must have items: Victorian blouse, ruched pencil skirt and kaftan
  • Footwear: Glittery footwear, ankle boots and pointed shoes

Lanvin Autumn Winter 2011 2012

The dark colours at Lanvin were luxurious and chic. Jewel hued tones for evening gowns were fabulous accents for Lanvin Autumn Winter 2011 2012 collection. We were captivated by the wide brimmed hats and structured dresses, skirts and capes within the first set of the collection. The sternness style of the collection was mystifying. The show progressed to include black and white large floral print dresses (we love!) and draped evening dresses which are designer Alber Elbaz's signature style. The final set included brighter colours which created dresses with volume.

Facts:

  • Colours: Black, white, cream, jewelled purple, peach pink
  • Must have items: Cape, wide brimmed hat and high volume dress
  • Footwear: Loafers, ankle strap shoes, platform sandals and high heel ankle boots

Christian Dior Autumn Winter 2011 2012

Christian Dior's paris fashion week show began with a moving speech from Dior president, Sidney Toledano. This was following the dismissal of designer John Galliano amid anti-Semitic remarks made. Due to these circumstances there was tight security and a heavy police presence. The disgraced British designer was absent from the show. Christian Dior's Autumn Winter 2011 2012 collection included 62 models and seemed to reveal an overal look back on Dior's previous seasons. The collection was ultra feminine. Fabrics were either sheer, appliqued or included features or fabric manipulation. An influence of lingerie was apparent with floaty silhouettes and frilly bloomers. The colour's within the collection were perfect for Autumn with burgundy, black and emerald green colour tones being used.

Facts:

  • Colours: Black, white, silver, burgundy and emerald green
  • Must have items: Featured dress
  • Footwear: Nude strappy platform sandals, black platform high heels

The Traditional Costume of China Cheongsam

Cheongsam becomes a kind of fashion in the world, whether in fashion shows or on the streets, we will find this China character. Especially in the Chinese wedding, the bridal’s dress will include cheongsam. It is showing graciousness, elegant, disposition and temperament of women.
Cheongsam is the traditional costume for Chinese women in the ancient time. When it comes to the tradition, we will think of the feudal and conservative ideas, but the cheongsam’s came out that may a way to stand out women’s beauty. And China is a country which has a long history, while the cloth for women would also develop.
Cheongsam with the modern flavor emerge in the early of 20th century combined with the style of western dress and was regarded as the representation of chinese traditional clothing. Popular in the 1930s and 1940s, cheongsam has been basically mature. And we know the Chinese dress now actually refer to this period. Cheongsam stems from a kind of long robe worn by both men and women of the north minority nationalities in China. In the past, the collar of the costume was made high and tight-fitting to keep warm. It has incorporated this feature, not just for preventing coldness but for beauty.
There are following requirements on all or parts of the appearance for general cheongsam:
The collar generally takes the shape of a semicircle, the right and left sides being symmetrical, flattering the soft and slender neck of a woman. Also, against the woman's lips and chin, it brings out her sex appeal. The front of it is simple and flowing without any decoration, the designers should make the waist girth appear as thin as possible to represent the line of women. Two big openings should be done at either side of the hem for convenient movement and display of the slender legs of women.
Today, with the development of the market in China, designs or styles of fashions are so dazzling as the stars that eye cannot take them all in. The cheongsam sleeves have already changed from no sleeves to long-sleeves, elbow-length sleeves, cornet sleeves, double sleeves, etc and some cheongsams have change from long robe to short. It represents people's spirit, living standards and aspirations towards beauty.

Indian Stars Shine at 'Miral' Fashion Week

latest trends

Freida Pinto bewitches in green at the 'Miral' premiere in Doha tribeca film festival 2010

Freida Pinto going by the season's minimalistic theme, kept it neutral and natural at the screening of 'Miral' in Doha tribeca film festival 2010. Her simple looks complemented well the oh-so-striking chiffon dress from the Christian Dior Resort 2011 collection.

Freida also earned brownie points for keeping her make-up subtle which induced freshness to her elegant persona. This Mumbai girl who rose to fame with her 'Slumdog Millionaire' has always upgraded her red carpet look, and amazingly gets it right all the time. Freida like to blend contemporary style with elegance and never tries anything outrageous. Her experiment with varied hairstyle for different events also gets thumbs up.

However, Freida is said to be a misfit to play Miral in the film. In a recent interview, julian schnabel defended his decision to cast Freida in 'Miral.' He is quoted as saying, "I have other Palestinian women in the movie. If you look at her [Pinto], she looks like she could be Rula's sister. And she's a damn good actress." In fact, the actress has worked hard on her accent for the film.

Mallika Sherawat's sultry in back-less gown at 'Miral'screening

The 'Hisss' lady is enjoying her fun time in Doha Film Festival 2010. Mallika Sherawat was not only seen in the opening day of the gala event but also made her presence felt at the 'Miral' premiere. Her back-less gown in the metallic hue with an edgy feel made her look sexy, but what we missed was the 'wow' effect. If the dress has dull effect on us, Mallika made up with her make-up, gleaming face and that gorgeous smile.

However, it was pleasing to see Mallika trying out normal outfits. Her Cannes red carpet look was highly appreciated as she didn't try too hard on fashion seeking attention rather let her chic dresses to do the talking. She also posed for photos with Freida Pinto, Indian actress of Miral and also writer-journalist Rula Jabreal.

Only the lady could change her hairdo! It would have spiced up things. It's boring, Hisss gal!

Famous Fashion Weeks

fashio

The Fashion Weeks last a whole year only the venues of the show change. Somewhere in the world there is a fashion show going on almost all the time. The Fashion Weeks are major shows where the designers and the fashion houses have the chance to present their latest collections. One of the biggest honors that a fashion designer can receive is to be invited to a fashion show in London, New York, Paris or Milan.

These four are considered the most important fashion capitals of the worlds alongside Sao Paolo (which occupies the number one position in Latin America) and Tokyo (fashion leader of the Asia/Pacific region). At fashion shows fashionistas, the media and the whole general public find out what is in and what is out in fashion. The collections that are presented at fashion weeks are actually the trends that will be in vogue several months later.

The city that kicks off the Fashion Week season is New York and then all the other shows follow. The first American Fashion Week was held in New York back in 1943. At the beginning it was called the Press Week and it was destined exclusively to the media. This happened because the World War II made it impossible to travel to Paris and as such the American designers where stuck on home land. After the press realized that their co-national designers where not copying the French as they previously though, they started to receive more and more attention.

The people that attend these fashion shows come in all shapes and sizes from potential buyers, to journalists, models, celebrities and actors. All of them dress to impress and the front row seats at the major fashion shows prove it. fashion photographers have their hands full with all the models on the catwalk and off the catwalk.

Fashion is constant and only the trends change. When you are choosing your outfits or when you are going shopping you should keep in mind that you have to choose only the clothes that best fit your personality.

If you are interested in purchasing ladies dresses, designer suits, jackets and t-shirts for all occasions then be ready because the winter collection is about to appear.

Indian Designer Manish Arora With His Baroque Ornamentation at Paris Fashion Week

Presents

Future is here, at least for the Indian designer Manish Arora, who showcased his baroque ornamentation at paris fashion week. The designer, known for his love of vibrant colours and abstract shapes, took inspiration from Baroque, an artistic style prevalent from the late 16th century to the early 18th century predominating Europe characterized by dynamic movement, overt emotion and self-confident rhetoric. For Manish it was individualistic and very Indian, though some of the fashion critics have said its Lady Gaga goin gaga.

Manish combined Indian techniques with geometric designs in bold beautiful colours with a heady mix of different kinds of head gears and weird hairstyles for his beach baroque set of clothes. When his show started all of a sudden it was splash of colours. According to him the bottomline of the international fashion is that it should be no longer boring, Manish was speaking to a news agency about his collection.

This was his fifth season at fashion's biggest trade event - the paris fashion week, and his ninth international showcase - Paris (five shows) and London (four shows). His collection was also supported by Swarovski which is described by the designer as "mute, metallic, crystalline and European with wide and stiff shoulders resembling Greek armour-plates and military epaulettes".

What's in the collection - glamorous evening ensembles futuristic gowns reminiscent of Star War series, the hips of the dresses were padded for additional contours and stiff look, sheer pants and tops with sequins, outfits embroidered with crystals, beads, fine metal sheaths, applique needlework and long Victorian trains along the assymetrical hemlines, trailing into metres of sheer organza, crepe, nets, cotton-satins, silk and georgettes on the floor.

Not to miss out Manish's signature shoes, metallic pumps, bangles, and head gears in the shape a motor car. paris fashion week was taken aback!

The capital of the Netherlands holds its own fashion week event at the end of January and is fast becoming a hotspot for up and coming talents to showcase their works.

If you'd like to see the creations firsthand, consider booking some flights, finding suitable accommodation and start planning your stay to make sure it coincides with the event.

There are two schedules - one for the official events and another for the downtown attractions, so make sure you pick up a copy of each so as not to miss out.

You can get involved in fashion week yourself by attending exclusive collection unveilings, meeting designers, taking part in fashion challenges or even entering yourself into modelling contests.

If fashion is your passion, this week in Amsterdam is one you're sure to not want to miss.
